CITY HIT LEEDS FOR SEVEN

Premier League leaders Manchester City were at their ruthless best as they thrashed Leeds United 7-0 at home to move seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table. The Citizens were able to avenge the home defeat to the same opposition from last season. Northern Ireland international Stuart Dallas scored twice either side of the interval as Leeds United secured a 2-1 win at Manchester City with ten men after skipper Liam Cooper was sent off at the end of the first half.

Manchester City are the pacesetters in the Premier League at the moment and they were in the know that only a win would keep them at the top of the table with the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool breathing down their necks. The holders needed to win to stay at the summit till the weekend and they did just that in style as they ruthlessly dealt with their opponents.  Manchester City scored seven goals without any reply from the visitors.

England international Phil Foden started the floodgate of goals in the eighth minute before Jack Freakish doubled the advantage via a header from close range for his second City goal since his £100m transfer from Aston Villa in the summer. Manchester City paid a British transfer record to sign the Englishman from Villa this summer.

Manchester City scored a third goal through star player Kevin De Bruyne who was making his first Premier League start in over a month having recovered from Covid-19. He was the star of the Leeds United with two goals either side of the interval. The goals from Foden, Grealish and De Bruyne gave City a commanding lead at the break and the game was over a contest at that point.

De Bruyne was on target in the second half in addition to goals from RiyadMahrez, John Stones and substitute Nathan Ake.

With the big win over Leeds United, Manchester City have moved to 41 points on the league table. They have four more points than Liverpool in second place and five more points than Chelsea in third place. Liverpool and Chelsea can reduce the deficit to one point and two points respectively if they beat their opponents. Liverpool have an home game against Newcastle United, while Chelsea have an home clash with Everton.
